Verona

Found in northern Italy, only about 120 kilometers west from Venice, Verona is one of the most famous cities in Italy. The city has achieved a UNESCO status because of its rich history and beauty. It is one of those place that young and old people come to spends romantic time together. With the Renaissance architecture, and the huge central attraction, that is 2000-year old amphitheater, there is a special kind of classical European feeling in the air.

Verona and architectural treasure

Verona is a treasure chest of old Roman and medieval Europe architecture. Because of its military weight in the past, many forts and even a city castle have been preserved. Probably one of the most fascination attractions is the Arena, an enormous Amphitheatre built back in Roman times, but this is only one example as there is plenty more to see.

Verona is pretty famous for being the setting of the legendary Shakespeare’s story of Romeo and Juliet. You can even visit Juliet’s House, known for as perhaps being the location of the famous balcony love scene from the story. There are some fascination churches and cathedrals to visit. One of the most prominent ones is the Verona Cathedral. The building is around 1000 years old. This is the Romanesque cathedral well worth visiting.

The beauty of this Italian city doesn’t lie on the architecture only. City surroundings are also great and offer a great day trip from Verona. The city is situated along the river Adige, one of the largest in Italy that stretches to Austria and Switzerland. The atmosphere is more relaxed and easy-going than of Verona’s sister cities like Venice or Rome.
